The Gospel
God created us to know Him and live under His good rule. But every human being has sinned (Romans 3:23), earning God’s judgment (Romans 6:23). Yet God, in His mercy, sent His Son Jesus Christ—fully God and fully man—to live the righteous life we failed to live, to die for sinners, and to rise again (1 Corinthians 15:3–4).
Salvation is a gift of grace, not earned by works (Ephesians 2:8–9). God commands all people to repent (Acts 17:30) and to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31). Everyone who comes to Christ in faith is forgiven, justified, adopted, and given eternal life (John 3:16; Romans 5:1).
Those who believe are called to follow Christ as Lord, obey His Word, and join a Bible-preaching local church (Hebrews 10:24–25).
1. The God Who Made Us
The gospel begins with God, not with us.
He is the holy Creator of all things, sovereign, righteous, and good (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 24:1). We were made to love Him, worship Him, and joyfully obey His commands. Life only makes sense when it is lived under His rightful authority.
2. Our Problem: Sin
Although created for fellowship with God, humanity rebelled. We have broken God’s law in thought, word, and deed (Romans 3:10–12). Sin is not merely a mistake—it is spiritual treason, a rejection of God’s rule.
Because God is just, He will punish sin (Hebrews 9:27). The Bible teaches that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23)—spiritual death now and eternal separation from God in judgment.
3. God’s Remedy: Jesus Christ
The good news is that God did not leave us without hope.
Out of love, the eternal Son of God took on human flesh (John 1:14). Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, fulfilling God’s law on our behalf. On the cross, He suffered the punishment we deserve, dying as a substitute for sinners (Isaiah 53:5–6; 1 Peter 3:18).
Three days later, He rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3–4), proving His victory over sin, death, and Satan. He ascended into heaven and now reigns as Lord. Salvation is found in no one else (Acts 4:12).
4. How We Must Respond: Repent and Believe
Hearing the gospel is not enough. God calls every person to respond.
Repentance
To repent means to turn away from sin and rebellion and submit to Jesus as Lord. It is a decisive change of mind and heart that leads to a transformed life (Luke 9:23; Acts 2:38).
Repentance is not perfection, but a sincere, Spirit-empowered turning from sin toward God.
Faith
Saving faith is not mere agreement with facts about Jesus. It is trusting Him personally—resting on His finished work and receiving Him as Savior and Lord (John 1:12; Romans 10:9–10).
All who come to Christ in humble faith are forgiven and made new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
5. The Gifts of Salvation
Those who repent and believe the gospel receive God’s gracious gifts:
- Forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:14)
- Justification—being declared righteous before God (Romans 5:1)
- Adoption into God’s family (Galatians 4:4–7)
- The Holy Spirit, who regenerates, indwells, and sanctifies (Titus 3:5–6)
- Eternal life in Christ (John 3:16)
Salvation is entirely of grace, not of works (Ephesians 2:8–9). No one can save themselves.
6. A New Life Under Christ’s Lordship
Those who are saved are called to follow Jesus as Lord:
- growing in holiness,
- devoting themselves to Scripture, prayer, and obedience,
- putting sin to death,
- loving God and neighbor,
- persevering in faith until the end.
True faith inevitably produces spiritual fruit (John 15:1–8; James 2:17).
7. Join a Bible-Preaching Church
God does not save people to walk alone. Scripture calls believers to gather regularly with a local, Bible-believing, Bible-preaching church where they can be taught, encouraged, corrected, and strengthened (Hebrews 10:24–25).
A healthy church helps believers grow in grace, receive pastoral care, participate in the sacraments, and serve others.
8. A Call to You
If you sense the weight of your sin and the beauty of Christ’s saving work, Scripture invites you to come to Him now:
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” — Romans 10:13
Turn from sin. Entrust your life to Jesus Christ. Plead for mercy.
He will not cast you out (John 6:37).
